Sex Revolution: The Pill

In the 1960's the birth control premiered on all counters for women to buy. Birth control was definitely a major influence on sex in society at that time. Now that women had the opportunity to exercise their sexuality freely there was nothing else to stop them. Women now had the same leisure that men had y wearing a condom. Very minimal risks lead the 60's into a sexual frenzy.
Since both my grandparents lived in El Salvador and weren't around during the birth control frenzy in america, I decided to interview my friends grandpa. I asked what it was like to live in this time period. He told me that it was a fast paced crazy time period that changed america completely. The 60's brought friendly old america into the real world. Women were openly having sex with men because the birth control pill protected them from any unexpected surprises. He had many stories that he shared with me about women in the past and how in changed the way women acted and thought. Before this sex was tabooed as an inappropriate act and after this it was freed and expressed everywhere. Because of it americans have sex regularly. It has been socially accepted and it is not uncommon for men and women to have sex without being married. He added by saying how his views on sex changed completely from what he was taught. He realized sex is a beautiful thing that shouldn't be hidden and he is so happy he got to live through that era.

Muse Workshop #2

I attended my final workshop last week. I entered the workshop with a negative attitude, but I left very satisfied. The workshop dealt the issues that are shown in cartoons. To my surprise the workshop was really informative and covered many important topics. We discussed the government issues that were found in an episode of Family Guy. Afterwards, everyone broke up into groups to discuss the episode. We all talked about equality and mentioned three philosophers that covered the social contract theory. Their names were John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, and Jean-Jaques Rousseau. They each had different views on the subject. Locke had the theory that all people are born to be good, Hobbes thought the opposite, and Rousseau thought they are born to be blank slates. Our groups discussed them and their views, we eventually agreed after sharing our thoughts with other groups. I ended up learning alot on how our government works and how they are different from others. I am glad that I attended that workshop.

Non-Muse Event

I am required to attend one non-muse event on campus for my sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. I decided to attend a concert and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I attended a concert in which The Roots, Gym Class Heroes, and Estelle performed. I personally like all these artists, but especially the roots. I am so lucky to have been able to see them all in concert. The first artist that came in was Estelle, who isn't really a favorite, but I must admit she gave a great performance. She ended up performing "American Boy" which is the only song I like from her which pleased me very much. The next act up was Gym Class Heroes, who were great. I recognize their songs much more and it so much fun listening to them live. The Roots came on after them and they are one of my favorite bands. I got so excited when they came out that I began screaming their name. The best part was that they brought out a special guest that no on knew about. The special guest was Mos Def, a well respected rapper/actor. I happen to enjoy his music, so that ended up making my night. The cost of the ticket-twenty four dollars, the cost of a water- three dollars, the excitement that came upon my face when the roots came on stage- priceless.

Final Essay Topic.

For my final essay I have decided to pick option 2 out of the two options that are given to me. Option 2 states that I must chose one contemporary version of a song that has been done before. I began to think about which song I should chose and I came up with two songs.

Stand By Me- Sam cooke (The Fugees)
Boys in the Hood- Easy E (Dynamite Hack)

The Pressures of Sex

The percentage of teenagers that are sexually active has become more significant than ever before. Most teens begin having sex in their high school career. By the teens have gotten to college it most likely that they are no longer virgins. Although this fact is very likely, there are still those few that have not experienced sex yet. I believe that has got to be the biggest pressure faced among teens in college. People are pressured to have sex everyday and it could be a problem especially if you are a virgin. It is very important that both partners who decide to have sex have a special agreement about it. Both need to be aware of what can happen. When it comes to dating than most of the time both partners wait to have sex. It is no longer a lust for sex, but there is now emotion invovled. Once again when both partners are ready than the right time will come. My advice for those younger than me is try and not have sex to early, it's not something to just give away. If you finally decide to have sex than make sure you are protected. We have an aids epidemic on our hands and it is sad to see so many die from it.

Lets Talk About DRUGS!

Many refuse to believe that drugs is a part of our culture today. Drugs has been in the mainstream since the 1960's. Even though drugs are illegal people still find ways to get high. Drugs are very intense and once it gets you hooked it could be nearly impossible to stop using. People will go to extraordinary lengths to get high and it is sad that some have gotten to that point. At this rate drugs is an everlasting circle that will never end. People become addicts to easily and cannot stop.
As a college freshman the availability of drugs has increased. I know many that use drugs and have been offered plenty times before. I quickly learned in high school that marijuana is the most common drug out there. I did not realize how many actually use this drug and the reason for that is because it is socially acceptable. I have friends that occasionally smoke marijuana or cigarettes and no one minds. Basically any drug that is grown from the ground and/or alcohol is seen as normal. Once people begin to get involved with cocaine, heroine, meth, pcp, prescription pills, ecstasy, or any other narcotic then it is tabooed. Not too many people do these type of drugs, and when I find out people do I try to stay away from them. The reason I stay away is so there is no chance to be peer pressured to try any of that stuff. These drugs are also habit forming, very expensive, and has short and long term effects. Drugs could be a dangerous thing that everyone needs to be aware of even if you don't use it.
