Tips For Success #4

Tip For Success: Do Not Overgeneralize!
I happen to think that this is one of the most important tips i have come up with so far. Not
only does this deal with your ability, but also with your personality. This is a mental aspect that can potentially consume all your decision making for the rest of your life. No one is perfect, there will be many moments in your life where you will feel like you have failed. What ends up happening is that people begin to believe that they will always fail. This is called overgeneralizing situations and it is a huge mistake. Just because you failed once does not mean you will again. It always good to try until you succeed and that is the attitude you must take for every thing in life. Never give up, always try your hardest, and you will succeed guaranteed.

Tips For Success #3

It's time for another great tip of success! Today's tip: Study Groups.
Study Groups is a great way to get through any class with a breeze. Have you ever heard the saying two heads is better than one? Well this is a perfect example of why this saying is true. It is always a good idea to get into a study group whenever a test is coming. The reason is because when in a study group you get to exchange notes with others in your class. You get to broaden your horizons in a way and see what notes they have taken. Therefore you can take in more useful knowledge that you will be able to use on the test. For example if one of your classmates took better notes than you did on a certain subject in class; once in a study group you can take that opportunity to write his notes down so you could use it for the test. You could also decide to test or play quiz games with each other to learn the material. This seems better and a bit more entertaining than studying by yourself. So it might be a good idea to get out there, make friends, and get into study groups if you haven't already.

Elvis: A Revolutionary

When people think of Elvis the first thing to pop into their heads is that he's the King of Rock n' Roll. Although, this is believed to be true Elvis is much more than that. He was also a revolutionary when it came to music in the 50's. Elvis is believed to be a major influence to stop racism in our country during this time. Elvis became a star when Black artists weren't allowed to perform, and their Rock n' Roll music was blasphemy against the music of the time. No white artist would dare ever sing and dance to rock n' roll. Parents were so accustomed to listening to Frank Sinatra, but when Elvis came he rattled everyone. He was a white performer singing black music and dancing erotically on television.
Once Elvis came on the scene his music was played all over the stations because of popular demand. There was nothing the radio stations could do, Since he was a white performer and all. So he bravely brought black music into the houses of white americans all over the country. This way many more people became fans of rock. After Elvis many other artists came to the scene like: The Big Bopper, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens (who was mexican). Elvis made rock music popular and let people know that it is fine to like different types of music.

Tips For Success #2

I am back this week to enlighten my fellow bloggers with another tip for success. I hope my last tip was useful to some of you out there. If it wasn't then hopefully this one will: SAY NO TO PROCRASTINATION. Procrastination may be the single most effective attitude that cripples students from succeeding. This is a shame since Procrastination is just a pure form of laziness. Now I am admitting this to be able to relate with my fellow bloggers, but I myself am a dreaded procrastinator. I have had this "sickness" ever since I was in 6th grade. The cure is simple. All you have to do is have a little self discipline and get your work done. It is better to get all your work done first, and then go hang out with your friends. This tip also works with my last tip. Organize your time efficiently and get your work done. So remember say no to procrastination and yes to getting your work done.

Musical Memory

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I could remember. When I was younger I probably didn't appreciate it as much as I now. I remember I was raised under the influence of my father. I looked up to him so much, therefore whatever he listened to I would as well. His favorite music was of course from the 60's and 70's because that was the time period he was raised in. I was raised to love that music. I remember being a 9 year old boy singing along to everything from The Beach Boys to The Begees. I still have not forgotten my roots; I currently have all my oldies on my ipod where they can be easily reached whenever I want to reminisce.
Now that I have grown up and I am able to decide what music I want to listen to, I would have to say that my taste in music has changed, but not too much. I continue to listen to oldies, but I also found out that I really like hip hop, rock, and rn&b. Music is very influential in young peoples lives. I couldn't imagine a world without music, it would be like a world without speech. Music is such a beautiful talent and way to bring peace to people. It is no longer a trend, but more like part of our culture. Millions of people now own ipods and never leave home without them. Music makes me happy and I will continue to venture out and discover new sounds that intrigue me.

Weird art in the library

I had the opportunity to visit the San Jose State Library the other day. It was quite an experience, especially when I saw the secret door. In movies it has been seen when libraries have trap doors. A door that revolves around and it usually leads to another room. I was really excited when I saw this. I have always wanted to try one out, and I got that chance. Unfortunately, this trap door did not go to another room, which defeated the purpose. I left the library that day wanting to return again.

I "Googled" myself

I have indeed googled myself. The results were not surprising at all, since there were none. I found absolutely nothing on myself which was a bit of a disappointment at first. After I took some time to think about it i realized maybe it is better that my name is not plastered all over the web. I like the fact that i have my own private life and no one can make their way into it.

Academic Transformation 1-6,7

6. What do you envision to be your life's work? Is it different from what you may currently be experiencing? How does (or will) work give meaning and purpose to your quality world.

I envision myself to be a successful person wherever my life takes me. Currently I believe I am pursuing just that. I am attending San Jose State and am Majoring in civil engineering. My dream is to graduate and to get a good job as that. The only thing driving me to do that is my will. Work/will is very important because one must have it to succeed.

7. Select two trends from table 1.1. How could they be important to you during your professional career?

I think A. would be very important to me because it deals with the percentage change of students enrolling  in degree-granting institutions. I would rather have students that graduated with a degree to come work for me instead of laborers who didn't even go to college. I think D. is most important because D. deals with retention rates by type of institution and by enrollment status for 1998. I think this one is important because I would rather have a 4 year graduate than a 2 year graduate working by my side.

Tips For Success

As a college student I have come across certain tips one needs to succeed as a student. Today I will reveal one tip to all my fellow bloggers. My first tip for Success is...ORGANIZATION.
Organization is one of the most important key factors in not only a students life but in anyone's. Once one gains the ability to organize themselves then it will follow them throughout life. You will never want to lose this skill. A good way to be organized is to buy a daily planner and write down everything that you need to do. This daily planner will become your new best friend. Another way to stay organized is to organize your work place. This way you will know where everything is at and it will minimize losing things. So remember stay organized and keep a schedule and you should be fine.

My first blog

My name is Michael and I am new to this whole blogging thing. I'm not quite sure if I'm doing this correctly but I figure I'd give it a shot. The reason I'm blogging is because I am enrolled in a muse class that requires it. The Muse class is about Sex, Drugs, and Rock'N Roll. The reason I decided to take the class was because of my love of music. Music has become such a common necessity in our culture today and I am excited to learn about it's history.
I was born in 1989 and that makes me 18 years of age until this november. I am currently attending San Jose State University and am liking so far. My favorite music would have to be pretty much anything besides country. I like hip hop/rap, rn&b, and rock the most.
